»Dvelo.org is a nonprofit website that enables people like you to make lendable contributions to extremely poor communities through our field partners and a practice called microfinance. These business owners and communities aren't looking for handouts. They simply seek affordable access to credit that the rest of us often take for granted. These business owners are not charity cases. They are hard-working, responsible individuals that would like to be given the opportunity to succeed in the marketplace.
»Our field partners repay your lendable contribution with interest to your Dvelo account, at which time you can relend it to another field partner, or you can permanently donate your contribution to one of Dvelo's partnered charitable causes.
»Microfinance, since its inception just over 30 years ago, and especially within the last decade, has become one of the world's most sustainable approaches to poverty relief. So far, the world has raised over $30 billion through investment in microfinance. It is becoming a mainstream issue and investment avenue, which is great news for the millions that need it. However, several estimates say that the young sector still needs about ten times the current investment to relieve those affected by a lack of access to affordable credit.
»Dvelo.org allows partnered microfinance institutions (MFIs) to request loans for the communities they work with through our innovative website. These organizations typically get their funds from either donations, grants, or loans from local commercial or institutional lenders that charge anywhere from 15-20% interest for capital. Dvelo.org serves to reduce this cost of capital for these MFIs by giving them a platform to request loans directly from social lenders like yourself, however Dvelo.org does not support interest-free or donated funds for MFIs because we feel it reduces their accountability and may distort their respective microfinance market in the long-term (read more about why Dvelo.org requires our field partners to pay for the funds they raise here). Search the current loan requests to find the one for you.
